Thursday and Friday, 27-28. In May 2021, an online “Conference on benchmarking in the water supply sector” was held. This benchmarking conference is the second of a total of three planned conferences aimed at strengthening the capacity of actors involved in the provision of water services in their ongoing efforts to improve their services. In this context, benchmarking stands out as an important tool – a process through which water companies gain insight into their own performance, with the possibility of comparing performance with similar companies, and is the basis for identifying areas where improvement and capacity building are needed.
The conference was attended by representatives of public water companies, representatives of their founders (municipalities and cities) in the cross-border area of BiH – Montenegro, then representatives of ministries of water, energy and environmental protection, environmental funds / energy efficiency, water agencies, alliances municipalities and cities, associations of water companies, financial institutions, consulting companies, non-governmental organizations, development and cooperation agencies, and other relevant stakeholders from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.
The first day of the conference was dedicated to the use of information obtained through the implementation of benchmarking processes for policy making, and the application of indicators and benchmarking in the context of meeting the requirements of international financial institutions to measure project sustainability. The second day of the conference focused on improving water supply services using benchmarking which has proven to be an effective tool for improving the performance of water companies.
