As part of the Danube Water Program (DWP), an online evaluation workshop was held on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, on the topic of Capacity Building Program for Financing Water Supply and Sanitation Services at the Local Government Unit Level. The organizers of this workshop were the World Bank, the International Association of Water Companies in the Danube Basin (IAWD) and the Aquasan Network in BiH, and it was funded by the Global Water Protection and Sanitation Program (GWSP). The general objective of this Program is to develop and deliver a capacity building program on the basics of financing water services at the level of the local self-government unit, given that there is a need to improve the technical and financial operations of water service providers.

The World Bank is working on strong regional and global expertise to support the BiH government’s program to modernize the water services sector. At the same time, the World Bank supports the Danube Learning Partnership (D-LeaP), established by the International Association of Water Companies in the Danube Basin (IAWD) and its partner associations at the national level, which offers and provides capacity building programs for water / utility companies. and their employees. In this context, the Aquasan Network in BiH (partner of D-LeaP since its establishment) cooperates with the World Bank in the development and implementation of this D-LeaP Program. The capacity building program for financing water supply and sanitation services at the local government unit level is based on training materials developed by the World Bank at the global level. The D-LeaP Program is adapted to the BiH context and designed to be easily adapted to other countries in the region. The program is intended for staff and management of water service providers, as well as key officials and decision makers in local government units.

The general goal of today’s workshop was the validation of the draft D-LeaP Program by all parties involved before finalizing the material of the proposed D-LeaP Program, while the specific objectives are to clarify details regarding content and methods, and harmonize materials and deliveries of the proposed D-LeaP Program. Participants in the work were representatives of the World Bank, D-Leap Program, UNDP, Aquasan Network in BiH, and partner associations of D-Leap in BiH, which are associations of local governments in FBiH and RS (SOG FBiH and SOG RS) and associations of water / utility companies in FBiH and RS.
